This is an interesting case of a photo encapsulating an entire event, an entire part of history. For 17 year the woman was unknown, an enigma of an entire war. National Geographic has found this young girl, now a woman, and has published a very interesting article about the 'Afgan Girl' whose sea green eyes "are haunted and haunting, and in them you can read the tragedy of a land drained by war." I know it has been said far too many times before, but a photo really is worth a thousand words!
